Jones Academy is located in Hartshorne, OK (Southeastern, OK) and owned by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. It houses dormitories for it’s students and several K-12 classroom buildings. Throughout the 25 years that Chahta Architecture/EOTS has worked with Jones Academy, we have designed and provided construction administration on many projects throughout the campus. The K-6 Academic Complex is made up of 4 wings connected by a mutual corridor and is 18,000 SF. It was designed with having multiple wings that can be easily locked down for security purposes, but that were all connected by a mutual corridor. The front of the building faces the rest of the Jones Academy campus and the long connecting corridor has room for future additional wings to meet the needs of the student population. The academic complex currently includes: 2 classroom wings (each with a storm shelter) and one with a multipurpose/gym; a front area with staff offices, workrooms, and a music education classroom; 1 wing with a library/media center, art, A/V, and tech classrooms; and 1 small wing for mechanical/maintenance with room for expansion.
